I am a morning person for sure, but mostly I'm in it for the coffee . This morning I woke up and realized I was out of coffee, which is a recipe for disaster. So, I drove ten minutes to the closest coffee shop because it isn't a good morning without coffee. Considering I was basically still in my pajamas I went through the drive thru, and when I got to the window to pay for my delicious coffee something amazing happened: the barista handed me my coffee and said the woman in front of me had paid for my drink and told me to enjoy my day. Such a small act of kindness, but probably the nicest thing someone has done for me in so long.
This easy action got me thinking about people and life and how easy it is to get caught up in your daily life tasks, but this made me stop and appreciate every little detail of my life. I'm completely inspired and thankful. I hope that everyone enjoys their day, and remembers that even the smallest actions can change or make someone's day- because I know my day and possibly week was just made. Happy Friday! Okay, so I have been in Austin for almost three years now and I'm really just now starting to feel like a local. That being said, though, I have still yet to visit a number of the best known local spots. One of the biggest Austin staples I recently visited: the Greenbelt. My best friend and I had planned a day at Barton Springs, but when we arrived and there was $5 charge to park we quickly changed our mind. We decided on the Greenbelt, and we were so happy with our choice. The entrance is right off a main highway, and with just a little walk I felt completely secluded from city-life. This is one of my favorite things about Austin: there is a balance between a big city feel and suburban elements. If you live in austin and haven't been- you need to go this weekend!
I have been seriously MIA, and this time it is because I have been traveling. I spent the past five days in Washington DC celebrating my oldest sister's engagement to such an amazing guy! It has been two- almost three- years since I have left Texas, and I had the best time visiting my sister! I forget how green Virginia is, which sounds ridiculous but after being in Texas for so long you almost forget how green trees can be. No moment of our trip was unplanned; wedding dress shopping, brunch, museums, and finally the big party. It truly was the most amazing weekend, and I could not be more thankful to have such an amazing family and sister.
As I prepare for my first trip of the summer, and first time to leave Texas in almost two years, I am realizing that my lack of travel has more than just an impact on my wanderlust-y spirit. I have realized how completely unprepared I am for short weekend trips. I mean, when I lived abroad trips were generally at least week, and when they were shorter I shared a bag with a family member. Now, though, this is not the case, and as I began my packing process the only non-duffle bag that doesn't say, "bye I'm leaving for at least a month," is my high school soccer bag...While my pink underarm soccer bag worked great for carting my soccer gear five days a week in high school, I would like to think that I have outgrown it at this point. So, my wish list's number one item has out of necessity become the perfect weekender bag.
